Weekend curfew imposed across the entire state and a night curfew on weekdays in all districts having more than 500 Covid-19 cases
While the night curfew in these districts will be effective from 8 pm to 7 am next day starting Tuesday, the weekend curfew will be enforced from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am, with all non-essential activities restricted. Representational image/PTI
New Delhi/Lucknow: The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the Allahabad high court’s order directing a lockdown in five Uttar Pradesh cities Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi and Gorakhpur.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) was not vested with the powers to examine the validity of any law or to strike it down.
“Prima facie we are of the view the National Green Tribunal can’t strike down a law,” said Chief Justice Sharad A. Bobde, heading a bench that also comprised Justices A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian.

Supreme Court judge, Justice V. Ramasubramanian, recused himself on Monday from hearing a plea by PDP leader Abdul Nazir Maudany to relax his bail condition and permit him to stay in his hometown in Kerala till the pendency of the trial in the 2008 Bengaluru bomb blast case, in which he is an accused.
The Bench, headed by Chief Justice Sharad A. Bobde, and also comprising Justice A.S. Bopanna, adjourned the hearing.
