1. The High Court in Suva has fixed two weeks for trial in the case where a 43-year old carpenter is facing arson and murder charges.
Arvind Chand Rai appeared before Justice Salesi Temo.
Rai is charged with one count each of arson and of the murder of a 35-year-old woman.

Mar 16, 2021 04:39:29 PM A 50-year-old Kadavu man handed a life sentence by the High Court in Suva today for raping his cousin-sister’s 8-year-old granddaughter in 2019. The court heard that the girl while on her way to school on 12 July 2019 was attacked by the accused who put a white sack over her head and hit her left temple with a stone. The girl lost her consciousness and the man then carried her to a bush where he raped her. She went to school after regaining consciousness and informed her mother about the rape in the afternoon. Judge Justice Salesi Temo while sentencing the man said the extreme violence he used to execute the rape was uncalled for and he needed to be punished accordingly.

Justice Salesi Temo praised a 37-year-old farmer for co-operating with the Fiji Police Force by voluntarily showing his marijuana farm and assisting the officers in uprooting them.
Between August 2018 to December 2018, at Vusasivo, in Savusavu, Cakaudrove, Anare Yabakidrau cultivated 2447 marijuana, weighing a total of 369 kilograms.
