A 50-year-old Kadavu man handed a life sentence by the High Court in Suva today for raping his cousin-sister’s 8-year-old granddaughter in 2019.
The court heard that the girl while on her way to school on 12 July 2019 was attacked by the accused who put a white sack over her head and hit her left temple with a stone.
The girl lost her consciousness and the man then carried her to a bush where he raped her.
She went to school after regaining consciousness and informed her mother about the rape in the afternoon.
Judge Justice Salesi Temo while sentencing the man said the extreme violence he used to execute the rape was uncalled for and he needed to be punished accordingly.
