Six people, including Laura Steele of Thomasville, linked to the far-right Oath Keepers militia group were indicted in February on charges that they planned and coordinated with one another in the attack on the U.S. Capitol, authorities said. NC DPS confirms Laura Steele is a registered armed security guard with Novant Health. She has been a PPSB registrant since 2018 and has no disciplinary history with the PPSB. Dunnellon couple charged in Jan 6 U S Capitol attack

Dunnellon couple charged in Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack Kelly Meggs, 52, and his 59-year-old wife, Connie, have been charged with aiding and abetting, conspiracy, destruction of government property, obstruction of an official proceeding and restricted building or grounds access. Marion County Jail records show the Meggses were booked within minutes of each other on Wednesday. They remained behind bars Friday. Locally, they have no criminal records. Another Marion County resident – Michael Curzio of Summerfield – also has also been charged in connection with the Jan. 6 mob violence. He was booked into the jail on Jan. 14, and released to federal officials on Jan. 22.
