Reporter good morning. These wind and rains are really kicking in since 10 00 a. M. P. M. Have gone on all night long and will pretty much have them all day long. As you mentioned, the hurricane is off shore. Were still feeling 60mileper hour wind in parts of Volusia County where im standing. The good news is this hurricane apparently is not going to have the catastrophic impact initially feared. One side of that, for instance, the power is that maybe by now we wouldnt have power but, of course, obviously we do. There is a curfew in effect by this county that started last will go on until saturday morning. 3800 people are in shelters. By and large people did heed the mandatory order to evacuate. I did run into some holdouts, people that were going to ride out the storm in their homes. They thought they would roll right now, everything appears pretty good. People have their fingers crossed the storm will stay off shore and spare the east coast of florida, which is what everybody here wa

Again, our number one priority is protecting every life in the state. Reporter but the worst hasnt hit just yet. The tomorrow is expected to pound the area with high surf and spawn tornadoes. This storm will kill you. Reporter 2 Million People in matthews path have been told to get out of way. Its th since super storm sandy in 2012. It could destroy homes and cut power to millions, possibly for days, and First Responders may not be there to help. This is really a serious storm. We have in every way tried to prepare as much as possible to keep you safe as possible. Reporter and to that end here in florida theyre doing what they can to keep people safe. Theyve opened 130 shelters across the state. Problem accommodating people, urging people if they dont have a safe place to be they need to make it to the shelters to stay safe.
