Nisga a Nation enters into first agreement towards proposed LNG project

CFNR Network Mar 15, 2021 11:22 AM The Nisga’a Nation has entered into a collaborative endeavours agreement into the assessment of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in the Nass area. The announcement was made by President Eva Clayton in a message sent out on March 12. The Nisga’a Nation will be working with Western LNG and Rockies LNG Partners to advance an LNG project named Ksi Lisims LNG. This is the initial agreement to evaluate and collaborate towards development in a way that respects the Nisga’a Final Agreement and the priorities of the community. There will still be many more months of dialogue to formalize a final agreement.

Fort Nelson First Nation proceeds with energy project

CFNR Network Mar 12, 2021 12:28 PM The Fort Nelson First Nation’s development corporation has announced that the Clarke Lake Geothermal Project will be proceeding. The project is likely to be one of the first geothermal electricity facilities in Canada. The Fort Nelson First Nation will be leading the energy transition by pursuing this 100 per cent Indigenous-owned energy project. The First Nation has secured nearly $40.5 million in federal funding which includes $38.2 million from NRCan’s Emerging Renewable Power Program.

Highway 16 between Terrace and Rupert under travel advisory due to high avalanche risk

CFNR Network Mar 12, 2021 2:49 PM A travel advisory is currently in effect between Rainbow Avalanche Gates and Exstew Gate due to a high avalanche hazard. The travel advisory is in effect for 84.9km, that’s 21 km east of Prince Rupert to 30 km west of Terrace. The highway is currently open however, it may close as soon as 6 p.m. today due to the avalanche hazard. Quesnel RCMP arrest one person following attempted robbery

CFNR Network Mar 12, 2021 12:34 PM Quesnel RCMP say in a press release that a man suffered several lacerations while attempting to stop a man from stealing items from a local business on Malcom Dr. In Quesnel. At approximately 3:20 p.m. on March 9, employees at Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts saw a man trying to steal items by concealing them in his jacket. When the employees tried to stop him an altercation ensued. During the scuffle, one of the employees received cuts to both his hands and one ear after the male produced a knife. RCMP were close by when the 911 call was received. James Peter Alexander Halvorsen who is a 37-year-old Quesnel resident was taken into custody. A knife was also seized at the scene.
