Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The thermometer at Juneau s Airport is flirting with a below zero temperature.
Meteorologist Code Moore in the Juneau Forecast Office tells us the record for the date is minus 2 degrees set in 1951. It stood at 1 above zero at 6:45 a.m. It was at minus 7 at the forecast office on Back Loop Road.
The last time it fell below zero at the Juneau Airport which is the official reporting station was on January 7, 2009, when it dropped to 9 below.
The last time the airport hit zero was on January 12 of 2014. The last time it dropped to single digits at the airport was on January 13 of last year.

Meteorologist Pete Boyd in the Juneau Forecast Office says we have what could possibly be an extremely high pressure that s going to be building over Canada and Alaska. That s going to be bringing in some very cold air to the region. We re looking at temperatures in at least the single digits nearing zero, possibly lower and high temperatures only in the teens.
He said the cold temperatures are forecast to start up Sunday night and lasting into Monday and Tuesday.
We asked about the last time the temperature fell below zero. The forecaster says the last time the Juneau Airport got below zero was on January 12 of 2014. He said it fell to minus three at their office on Back Loop Road last year on January 11. The last time the airport dropped to single digits was on January 13 of last year.
