Gujarat and Diu were badly impacted. The impact to Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa was primarily due to flooding and soil erosion along the coast due to a mild surge. The wind impact was primarily on electric poles and telecom towers, disrupting power supply and communication in certain areas.

aRajkot: A diamond worker in Surat, who allegedly took to crime to fund the treatment of his paralytic wife, was arrested by Junagadh crime branch for stealing two bikes. Jenti Bhambhani, a resident of Mendarda, sold one of the stolen bikes while he was arrested while trying to decamp with the other. The police have recovered both the bikes. Acting on a tip-off, the Junagadh crime branch intercepted Bhambhani’s bike. On inspection it was found that the chassis number of the bike was tampered with. Bhambhani also failed to produce documents of the bike. On questioning, Bhambhani admitted that he stole bikes from Katargam area with the help of duplicate keys and transported them to Junagadh. He also added that his wife suffered a paralytic attack and he committed the thefts to fund her treatment, police informed.

Bird Flu Confirmed in Few More Cities in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh FOLLOW US ON: The Centre on Wednesday said bird flu has been confirmed in poultry birds in few more places in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. So far, the outbreak of bird flu or avian influenza in poultry birds has been confirmed in nine states Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The disease in other birds such as crows, migratory and wild birds has been confirmed in 12 states. In a statement, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said that bird flu has been confirmed in poultry samples from Nanded, Solapur, Pune, Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Akola, Nashik and Hingoli districts of Maharashtra as well as in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat and Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh.
