campaign. she sort of rightly predicted what we re going to see coming from the defense team, from donald trump s defense team saying that, hey, we re going to need more time to go through this discovery. we re basically trying to kick the can down the road. whereas the special counsel s office is trying to get the show on the road, get this on the books, they want this scheduled for december really when the jury selection they d like to begin and then january 3rd, just before that three-year january 6th anniversary is when they would actually like to start opening arguments on this trial. so it s a jump ball. i think it s unlikely probably that we re going to ultimately settle on that because you re going to see so much opposition from the trump team, and especially when they have all those documents to review, you might end up getting later into the year. i think they definitely want to sort of move this forward. it really was extraordinary just to note, hearing these discussions abo
don t get indicted for lying. you get indicted for conspiring to stop the function of government in counting fairly the votes of the american people and certifying those votes. that s what this indictment is all about. we need to stay focused on that and realize that right now in america, it s a jump ball. this guy could be in charge again. and how frightening is that once you ve read this indictment? you know, jen, that is the communications challenge and you know of communications challenges working for two white houses. the indictment starts out by saying that donald trump had a right to fully litigate his challenges to the election and he did that and failed each time. and then goes through in a way that is an attempt to persuade, and it is clear that immediately
especially because we ll russell is the third time he s come before this grand jury. there s obviously something very interesting. given the amount of people that have come in at this point, you know, even though we are seeing these future meetings set up with potential witnesses, going for the next few weeks, even into mid august, it s still a jump ball of whether they re going to pursue this and have other investigations going on a separate truck, or whether they are going to wait out these other interviews. i think that more signs are pointing towards they re going to really be in the wrap up stage of this, and they re going to return to the former president shortly. ryan riley, thanks so much for getting us started. outside of trump s washington d.c. case, world s opinion an eye on his legal woes in the state of georgia. joining me now, barbara mcquade, msnbc legal analyst, former united states attorney for the state of michigan. law professor at the university of michigan school
