QEH mobilizes essential staff to assist with storm response Article by July 3, 2021 Disaster preparedness is a continuous activity at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and although affected by the passage of Hurricane Elsa, staff were well prepared and demonstrated exceptional levels of teamwork and support. Executive Chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Board of Management, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland noted that on Saturday, July 3, a full assessment was conducted of the main QEH grounds, its Enmore Compound, Belleville Annex, the Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS) headquarters and the Harrisons Point Isolation Centre. The assessment showed significant wind and flood damage to roofs and windows of the QEH, as well as uprooted trees across the compound, the most significant of which resulted in damage to a guard hut and a vehicle at the hospital’s River Road entrance.

QEH hit hard by Elsa

Article by Social Share The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) took a battering from Hurricane Elsa yesterday. Sections of the roof were lifted, windows damaged, departments flooded and trees fell in the car park. However, executive chairman Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland said the Martindales Road, St Michael hospital was still providing services. “We have been impacted by damage to uprooted trees, the most significant of which was at our Constitution Road entrance. This damaged a guard hut, a vehicle and a gate. Our security team normally stationed there had been pulled inside earlier for safety, so there were no injuries as a result,” she told the Saturday Sun.
