Governor Baker Criticized By Local Officials For Vaccine Rollout

Over 20 state lawmakers signed a letter to the Governor this week asking him to reconsider several aspects of the state s vaccine rollout, followed by Cape Cod State Senator Julian Cyr and State Rep. Dylan Fernandes lamenting the vaccine rollout on the Cape on Thursday. Now, Falmouth Town Manager Julian Suso is also speaking out, calling the 975 doses coming to Barnstable County per week “completely unacceptable” in a letter to the Governor on Friday.  Injecting Vaccine.  

600 Vaccines Fully Booked At Fairgrounds Regional Clinic

Barnstable County Fairgrounds will open as a COVID-19 vaccination clinic Wednesday, February 3, by appointment only. Appointments at the clinic are fully booked for all 600 doses it has received of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine doses will go to those who got appointments on the state’s registration platform, PrepMod, when it debuted on the site earlier this week. Town and county officials collaborated over the month of January to prepare a vaccine clinic at the fairgrounds capable of administering up to 500 vaccine doses per day. Barnstable County, which orders vaccines for the fairgrounds site, expects to receive a second order to administer the week beginning Monday, February 8.

Falmouth soon to become a green community

FALMOUTH The town is close to being designated as a green community, following in the footsteps of 279 other municipalities in Massachusetts, including eight on the Cape. The Select Board on Monday adopted its energy reduction plan, which is the last criterion needed to be designated as a “green community” by the state. Select Board Chairwoman Megan English Braga will send a letter to the state Department of Energy Resources to affirm the authorization. The letter must be submitted by Dec. 30. Municipalities designated as green communities are eligible to receive grant funds for green projects and those designed to further reduce energy consumption. The town could receive an initial grant of $190,000, as well as future funds for energy reductions. 

A new grant program aims to help small businesses survive the winter

FALMOUTH Much-needed relief for local businesses is on its way to help them survive the winter.  The Falmouth Economic Development and Industrial Corporation is getting ready to roll out the town s new small-business grant program.   After the pandemic hit in the spring, the corporation began working to provide assistance for struggling small businesses. The town has been awarded a $320,000 grant from the state Department of Housing and Community Development, $160,000 of which will go to the small-business grant program administered by the EDIC. The rest will be used for social programs, such as rental assistance provided through the Falmouth Service Center.
