FALMOUTH The town is close to being designated as a green community, following in the footsteps of 279 other municipalities in Massachusetts, including eight on the Cape.
The Select Board on Monday adopted its energy reduction plan, which is the last criterion needed to be designated as a “green community” by the state.
Select Board Chairwoman Megan English Braga will send a letter to the state Department of Energy Resources to affirm the authorization. The letter must be submitted by Dec. 30.
Municipalities designated as green communities are eligible to receive grant funds for green projects and those designed to further reduce energy consumption. The town could receive an initial grant of $190,000, as well as future funds for energy reductions.
