NUP s Ssempijja wins Makerere University guild presidency May 10, 2021 Ivan Ssempijja with his supporters earlier Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party-leaning candidate Ivan Ssempijja has been elected the new guild president of Makerere University, replacing Julius Kateregga.  In the election that was organized both physically and online, Ssempijja, a fourth-year student of bachelor of Medicine and Surgery defeated two other candidates in the race. Ssempijja garnered 3,112 votes while his closest rival, Aaron Oguttu obtained 1,833 votes and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidate Edwine Bbosa Bwetuyita garnered 248 votes. Photo | URN Summary Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Baguma on Friday held that Ms Nalukwago was duly nominated by the university and therefore should be allowed to campaign for now. Advertisement The High Court in Kampala has issued an interim order restraining Makerere University from disqualifying Ms Judith Nalukwago, a student, from participating in the Guild Presidential elections.   Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Baguma on Friday held that Ms Nalukwago was duly nominated by the university and therefore should be allowed to campaign for now.
