The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice on Wednesday presented the 144th Report outlining the response of the Union Law Ministry to the recommendations.
Extending the retirement age of Supreme Court and High Court judges based on their performance may not be practical, will "further erode" Parliament's powers and may result in "undue favouritism", the government has told a parliamentary panel.
The Committee, in its 133rd Report on the subject Judicial Processes and their reform , says it feels that the "age of retirement of judges needs to be increased in sync with the increase in the longevity and advancement in medical sciences leading to improved health of the population."
