RACINE â The COVID-19 pandemic is having a significant on three major local events coming up in the next couple weeks.
The St. Patrickâs Day parade is canceled, but two popular food-supporting fundraisers are still a go â albeit online.
Parade
For the second year in a row, St. Patrickâs Day will be celebrated without a parade in Racine.
Bars and restaurants are planning events to coincide with what is normally one of the City of Racineâs biggest annual celebrations, in part due to the cityâs large Catholic and Irish populations, not to mention a vibrant bar scene.
BURLINGTON â A Burlington High School teacher directed students to consider COVID-19 conspiracy theories months before the teacherâs methods came under public scrutiny. The Burlington Area School District also received a complaint that the social studies teacher was urging students not to wear face masks amid the pandemic, as has been required.
Taff
Records released under the stateâs open records law show that Jeff Taff shared with his Modern World History class theories that the COVID-19 pandemic is a hoax, including the baseless contention that then-President Donald Trump would expose the purported hoax.
The seventh-year social studies teacher has been on paid administrative leave since Jan. 7, one day after he attended Trumpâs election rally in Washington, D.C., which preceded the riot at the U.S. Capitol and left five dead; his wife, Chantel Taff, has said publicly that he did not enter the Capitol or engage in any violence on that day.
