Shin Named Kopenhaver Center Fellow

Dr. Jae-Hwa Shin, a professor of public relations in The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Communication, has earned the prestigious distinction of being named a 2021 Fellow of the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication.
Headquartered at Florida International University, the goal of the Kopenhaver Center is to empower both women professionals and academics in all fields of communication in order to develop visionaries and leaders who can make a difference in their communities and their profession.

Adam Golub, professor of American studies, presented a paper titled “Creative Work as Equipment for Living” at the Northeast Modern Language Association conference.
Bruce Rubin, lecturer emeritus and English language specialist for the U.S. Department of State on behalf of the U.S. Embassies in Nepal, India and Pakistan, was the lead presenter and emcee at the South Asian Regional Online Conference. He spoke on critical thinking in English language teaching.
Jason Shepard, chair and professor of communications, moderated a virtual panel titled “Covering Protests: New Challenges for a New Era,” sponsored by First Amendment Watch at New York University and the Center for Journalism Ethics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Jae-Hwa Shin, a professor in The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Communication, has co-authored a new book,
Public Relations Theory: Capabilities and Competencies, the first authored public relations theory book in the field.
Along with co-author Robert Heath, Dr. Shin offers in this new book a comprehensive overview of the major theoretical perspectives in public relations, considering the evolution, diversification and merger of approaches spurred by rapid changes in society, cultural boundaries, technology, and media environments. It features both organizational and social theories of public relations, including cases and challenges to help students
