Second-year engineering students at James Madison University have been busy designing a buoy this year in hopes of providing some low-cost solutions for protecting the environment.
When deployed with one sensor package, the buoy could help the Chesapeake Bay Foundation monitor the health of the bay via acoustic signatures. With a different sensor package, the buoy could help the Brevard Zoo monitor the migration of leatherback sea turtles off the coast of Florida.

On Saturday, the ASUC Judicial Council held a meeting to hear two cases brought against ASUC Senator and presidential candidate Chaka Tellem and the Elevate Cal coalition he is running with.
The cases brought against Tellem and Elevate Cal were first heard at a Judicial Council meeting last week. During Saturday’s hearings, the council discussed cases relating to an alleged violation of campaigning on campus property and inappropriate usage of ASUC resources. The council also voted on pending petitions.
While the petitions for the cases were first filed March 19, ASUC Elections Prosecutor Joshua Kay, along with Tellem and Elevate Cal’s co-attorneys Catherine Bauer and Maxim Miller, said they only had four days to prepare.
ASUC Elections Council approves voting period extension for elections

After a technical difficulty made the ASUC elections online ballot unavailable for an hour Monday morning, the ASUC Elections Council discussed approving a voting period extension. To guarantee that as many students are able to vote as possible, Temporary Rule No. 2020/2021-05 was created and then unanimously approved by the Elections Council to extend the voting period by an hour to 1 a.m. Thursday.
