NEW YORK The Colorado Rockies wanted to make sure they didn t fall flat again when they got back to sea level.
Having started 2-17 on the road and 16-12 in the thin air at mile-high Coors Field, they started batting practice more than five hours before Monday night s game at Citi Field elevation 13 feet.
Ryan McMahon and Elias Díaz responded with second-inning solo home runs off David Peterson, Austin Gomber pitched two-hit ball through eight innings and the Rockies provided one of their better road shows, beating the banged-up New York Mets 3-2.

The Mets offense couldn t back up David Peterson, as the Rockies picked up a 3-2 win in Citi Field on Monday night.
Peterson was on the mound for the Mets and had a rough start. After a mostly quiet first inning, Peterson gave up two solo home runs in the second inning to open things for the Rockies and give them a quick 2-0 lead.
Later on in the fourth, after putting a runner on base with a walk, Peterson gave up a triple to deep center which brought in another run.
Johneshwy Fargas crashed hard into the centerfield wall trying to make the catch on the play, and looked pretty banged up afterwards. He finished the inning out, but was replaced by Cameron Maybin, while Khalil Leet ook Maybin s spot out in right.
The two faces of the 2021 Colorado Rockies

44 games into the 2021 baseball season and it’s painfully clear the Rockies are not and and will not be a competitive team not in the NL West and not in the league overall despite promises to the contrary from owner Dick Monfort and now-former GM Jeff Bridich. With a record of 15-29, the Rockies are seated comfortably in the basement of their division. They also possess the dubious honor of the worst record in baseball with two more losses than moribund Minnesota Twins (14-27) and tie them for the worst winning percentage at .341. The Rockies are bad, there’s no doubt about that. However, the Rockies are a bad team with two different faces, and it’s unclear which face is the real one.
