Livingston Countyâs COVID vaccine supply was not included in a shipment that Michigan officials say was ruined by temperature fluctuations.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported Tuesday that it had been notified by distribution company McKesson Corporation that several shipments of Moderna vaccine shipped on Sunday, Jan. 17, had their temperature reported as going out of range and getting too cold. The cause of the incident is under investigation by McKesson.
Livingston County Health Department Director Dianne McCormick tells WHMI that fortunately the countyâs next shipment of vaccine was not included in the compromised batch. She says that the county received on allotment on Tuesday of 1,100 first doses and 1,200 second vaccine doses, which will be prioritized for first responders, those age 65 and up and K-12 educators. COVID-19 vaccines in Livingston County will be the focus of an informational webinar planned next month.
The Guest presenter will be Dr. Varsha Moudgal - St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospitalâs Chief Medical Officer and Infectious Disease Expert. Moudgal is expected to share the latest updates on COVID-19 in Livingston County, as well as COVID-19 vaccines. Sheâll discuss current planning and implementation efforts along with common vaccine concerns. The event is being hosted by the Livingston County Chamber Alliance, which consists of the Greater Brighton, Howell Area and Hartland Area Chambers of Commerce.

A local hospital and the Livingston County Health Department received and administered their first shipments of the FDA-approved Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital received 800 doses, joining six other Trinity Health Michigan hospitals that have begun administering COVID-19 vaccines to front line workers. Trinity Health Michigan hospitals throughout the state expect to continue to receive weekly shipments of both the Pfizer and the Moderna vaccine. Officials say all of the hospitals have ultra-cold freezers and are prepared to receive, store and distribute vaccines over the coming months.
Initial supplies of the COVID-19 vaccine are limited. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services identified a phased approach for vaccine distribution. At St. Joeâs, the vaccines are being administered on a voluntary basis to health care personnel who meet the CDC-
