good morning and welcome, everyone, to news 4 midday. we begin this morning with dangerous weather across the country. in the south, 12 people are dead after tornadoes ripped through parts of mississippi and three other states. strong thunderstorms also moved through parts of our area this weekend. news 4 bureau alexandria lee says front royal, virginia, was hit with hail and lightning. it also caused downed trees and power lines. and this morning fema crews are in mississippi, the state was hit hard by these storms. 10 of the 12 fatalities happened in yazoo city according to the national weather service, that area was struck by a tornado that was a mile and a half wide with winds of at least 160 miles an hour. new video out this morning shows just how massive that tornado was. the high winds brought down trees and toppled buildings and homes. nearly 700 homes were damaged or destroyed, most in yazoo city. a lot of noise and debris. you could hear stuff coming off the roof.

welcome to hln news and views. we have teams from the federal emergency management agency we re watching in mississippi to survey the damage from the weekend tornado. the storm killed at least ten people in mississippi and two in alabama and turned hundreds of homes and buildings into rubble. dozens of people were hurt. the coroner of choctaw county almost became a victim himself when the twister flipped his truck four times. another man was heading to his dad s restaurant to take cover in the freezer. his car was tossed up and lifted into the restaurant. it was unbelievable. it just when the windows exploded it was like anything i ve never experienced. i mean it was just amazing. scared us to death. i m very fortunate. i ve got four beautiful children. i couldn t imagine being without them. as tragic as everything is, we ve lost ten folks and family in this incident today. all family members and our heart goes out to them because we re lucky to be here. and don t realize
