25 new cases on April 21, the most in nearly 5 months
At 79 active cases Wednesday, Nova Scotia s COVID-19 numbers continue to surge. Nova Scotia has 25 new cases of COVID-19 today. This is not just the highest single-day total of the year and a substantial jump from the previous high of 15 new infections reported Monday but the most in a day since the 37 cases reported November 24. And that November mark was what triggered the second-wave lockdown for Halifax that lasted well into December. Twenty-five cases is a lot to detail. Here s the breakdown straight from the province s report for today.
Another case of COVID-19 has been connected to a school in the Halifax area.
This one is at Shannon Park Elementary in Dartmouth, which will be closed to students until Tuesday, April 27. A deep cleaning will take place and students will learn from home during the closure, it said in a news release. Families will receive an update before students return to school on Tuesday.
Public health officials are now in the process of tracking down close contacts and letting them know their next steps, which will include testing and self-isolation.
Because the result came in after the deadline for reporting case data, so it will be included in Thursday s daily case count.
HALIFAX Nova Scotia Public Health officials reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including 19 in Central Zone and Premier Iain Rankin is sounding the alarm about community spread as the number of active cases increases to 79. Earlier on Wednesday, Nova Scotia Premier Rankin cancelled the world women s hockey championship, which was scheduled for next month in Halifax and Truro. I am very concerned with the rising number of cases in Nova Scotia, which are higher than we have seen in quite some time, Rankin said. We are seeing early signs of community spread and we must strictly follow all public health protocols to get back on track, especially in the greater Halifax region.
