Bucks County to open COVID vaccine sites at Neshaminy Mall, Quakertown hospital

Bucks County will be opening two new COVID-19 vaccine sites next week, a move it anticipates will nearly double the current vaccination rate and cut into the current appointment backlog. The two new sites at the St. Luke’s hospital in Quakertown Borough and the Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem are expected to open on March 16, Bucks County Commissioners Vice Chairman Bob Harvie confirmed Tuesday. The commissioners are set to vote on the agreements for the new vaccine locations at their meeting Wednesday. Last month, Bensalem Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo announced the mall would host one of the county s vaccine clinics, but county officials would not confirm the news at the time.

Bensalem looks to preserve Neshaminy Mall dioramas

The seven Revolutionary War dioramas adorning the walls of the shuttered Macy’s at Neshaminy Mall may soon find new home as the Bensalem Historical Society and Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo work to save these pieces of township and American history. The array of large hand-crafted, three-dimensional scenes illustrate the moving of the Liberty Bell to keep it away from approaching British forces; William Penn’s purchase of land from Native Americans; ambassador Benjamin Franklin winning crucial colonial support from the French; the signing of the Declaration of Independence; George Washington and his troops surviving a hard winter at an encampment at Valley Forge; Washington crossing of the Delaware River; and the Battle of Germantown.

Neshaminy Mall, Bensalem senior center to host vaccine clinics

The Neshaminy Mall and the Bensalem Senior Center on Byberry Road will host vaccination clinics when vaccines against the coronavirus become more readily available, Bensalem Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo announced Monday night. Neither site is open and he did not give any indication when they would be ready. He also did not say who would run the clinics, who would be eligible or how to sign up for an appointment.  The mayor said at the township Council meeting, hosted on Zoom Monday night, that the township has been inundated with calls from people wanting to get the vaccine. Everyone wants to know when it s out. Most are seniors wanting to know why we can t get it, he further explained in a phone call Tuesday.  He said his office gets at least five to 10 calls a day.
