Asteroid Bennu is the first sample of an asteroid successfully brought to Earth in the history of the US space agency. It was dropped from an altitude of around 102,000 kilometers by the NASA probe "Osiris-Rex" and landed in the US state of Utah. Around 200 scientists are now working on the material using 60 different examination methods. A complete catalog of the sample will be published this year, it is said. The black asteroid Bennu has a diameter of around 550 meters and could come quite close to earth in a good 150 years.
It's been over 3.5 months since NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft dropped off its precious sample of asteroid dust, and scientists have finally managed to get the lid off the sample container.
