A mandatory curfew got off to a rough start last night. The police using smoke canisters and flash grenades against a defiant crowd refusing to go home. Ten people were arrested. It did not take long to restore relative calm that lasted through the night. Some moving images in the aftermath. Hundreds of volunteers picking up brooms and trash bags to help clean up devastated neighborhoods. Sweeping up glass and debris at the now infamous burnedout cvs. This striking photo going viral. And amid all the racial tension, a little boy handing out water with an outstretched hand to a white Police Officer dressed in riot gear. That photo shared more than 60,000 times. Hes broussard, 31yearold from San Francisco. Detectives here in richmond have been working this killing for hours. A car accident that was more. Drivers were stunned to come upon a bad rollover crash, one that closed eastbound lanes and gridlocked richmond streets. At least five bullet holes in the drivers door and witnesses who saw the suv go out of control said shots fired reporting party advised they didnt see the shots but heard them and smelled the gunfire. Arriving officers found the man dead in the drivers seat. Homicide detectives canvassed the scene. And people from the neighborhood watched expressing relief other motorist were not entangled in the violence. That could have been worse if it hit a family out here for cinco de mayo. Pop, pop, pop. Thousands gathering for the Memorial Service for officer Sergeant Loran butch baker and detective elizabeth butter, two Santa Cruz Police officers killed in the line of duty a week and a half ago. Law enforcement officers from around the state are gathering. We will bring you complete live coverage for the next few hours of the memorial and the procession that has wrapped up.
