Hurricane irma made its first landfall in the caribbean overnight. The category 5 hurricane is expected to hit the u. S. Virgin islands later and pass north of puerto rico tonight. Timelapsed photography shows the outer bands rolling into the island of st. Martin. Also in irmas path, tourists and resort workers are riding out the storm in hotel ballrooms there. All the forecasts agree that Hurricane Irma is headed straight for florida, but after that theres several paths it could take, up the east coast, along the gulf coast or through the middle of the state.
