UAlbany couldn’t break its long losing streak Saturday against Stony Brook, as the Seawolves won yet another America East Conference women’s lacrosse championship.
With a 16-9 win at its home Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Long Island, Stony Brook secured its eighth consecutive league championship. All eight of those title victories have come against a Great Danes program that has appeared in the last 10 conference championship games.
“We gave it our all,” UAlbany graduate student Madison Conway said during a post-game teleconference of the Great Danes’ effort.

ALBANY A championship rematch with Stony Brook, in all likelihood, looms.
And, make no doubt about it, that’s the game that will largely determine the way this UAlbany women’s lacrosse season gets remembered.
But the Great Danes cannot play that game, the one their program needs to find a way to win to move forward, until this weekend and they won’t play that game unless they take care of business Thursday against Vermont in the America East Conference semifinals at Stony Brook’s Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium at 6:30 p.m.

ALBANY It was an ideal start, but it still wasn’t enough for the UAlbany women’s lacrosse team to break its longstanding hex against America East powerhouse Stony Brook.

ALBANY As she prepared to join the UAlbany women’s lacrosse program, freshman Katie Pascale knew the team’s games against Stony Brook meant more than others.
“And, now, being on the team, you just see the fire that the upperclassmen have behind them when we’re playing them,” Pascale said during a Wednesday teleconference.
UAlbany plays against No. 6 Stony Brook this Saturday, as the Great Danes will head to Long Island to try to snap their top rival’s long winning streak against them. Stony Brook (2-0 America East Conference, 5-2 overall) has defeated UAlbany (2-0, 5-2) in 14 consecutive matchups, a span of games that includes seven meetings in the conference championship game.

ALBANY It’s not an easy one to start with for the UAlbany women’s lacrosse team.
But, at this point, after the way the last year has played out, the Great Danes are simply excited to start.
“We’re very, very fortunate to be playing,” UAlbany senior Julia Imbo said earlier this week. “I’m so excited. We’re going to take on every opportunity to play, and we’re just excited. I feel like we have so much energy. We feel grateful to be here every single day.”
