this is an issue of trying to translate tactical success and it s been very successful into a favorable strategic outcome. the only favorable strategic outcome is qaddhafi gone and some form of stability reestablished in a country that right now is facing a protected civil war. jon: why don t we say that? why don t we say, then if that s the goal that we want to get qaddhafi and replace his government? reporter: well, frankly, jon every uniformed person who i ve talked to over the last few days has said this. we have to stay within the bounds of the u.s. resolution and that is sort of tying the hands of the administration. we should not let the rhetoric interfere with the ultimate end in this case, the strategic outcome which is the removal of qaddhafi by force, or better his own people removing qaddhafi using their own internal means. the bottom line is we re facing the prospect of a protected civil war. we ve taken sides, we don t know
handle this matter about the debt ceiling. what do you think? one of the things congress has got to do is stop spending before they raise the debt ceiling. the republicans have a great opportunity to force the president and administration s hand on this, and most importantly, they have his own words from 2006, where he said we ve got to just not raise the debt ceiling. that s back when president bush was president. and he was adamant that it was irresponsible and it was a lack of leadership. so play that over and over and remind him that without conduct spending, i m not talking just a few billion dollars, but some significant cuts in the way we budget and spend federal money, the republicans should say no, we re not going to raise the debt ceiling. jenna: the white house says don t play chicken with this. of course they re saying that. jenna: where would you suggest the republicans say this is the cut, these are the significant cuts we want to make now? there are several things
who have declared themselves in trouble, hantramick, pennsylvania. and some of the cities and states have to pay more to borrow money or issue bonds. it affects the taxpayers. absolutely. it comes out of their current budgets because they have to pay interest on the debt, so those prices are going up and that will put a squeeze on other services and on the taxpayer. jon: why don t they do what the federal government does and print more money? they don t have the central bank, jon! they don t have a federal reserve in hantrammick, at least not yet, or california, and also, states have constitutional demands that they balance the budget. so they ve got to cut something and that s what you re going to see in a lot of states this year. jon: and they also have, you know, some of these mandates, mine, some of these things that they are committed to paying, like public pension and so forth. those commitments they ve made that are going to have to be negotiated. the reform issue is a h
