private citizens. one of the big issues in the california recall election has been governor gavin newsom s strict pandemic rules including small business lockdowns. let s talk with a couple golden state business owners. chef andrew gruel and candidate for walking county supervisor, dino bollen. great to having with us. i know that you have experience because of your business interests and we ve talked with you about facing lockdowns, rule changing, staffing changing. tonight the governor has held on. the people of california feel like that s her best move forward. chef, what do you think it means for business in your state? i think first and foremost, it certainly was a referendum on newsom s policies. it didn t end up the way many people wanted but i think they should be an opportunity moving forward for newsom to say this tent has gotten a lot eager.
jeep. there s only one. recall vote after early voting. the state s democratb governor, gavin newsom, is hoping to stave off republican backed efforts to oust him. remember how it works. two steps. one is do you want the governor out? if he loses that vote, then you go to the second question of who do you want to be the governor? he s come under scrutiny, n newsom, for his handling of the pandemic and recent wildfires. things came to a head last november when newsom was caught enjoying a lavish dinner with friends at an expensive french restaurant while the state was under partial lockdown. despite the backlash and the gotcha media, newsom is still polling ahead at 56%. that s 8 points better than only a month ago. his closest challenger is a
they did blow it because they didn t keep the scrutiny and spotlight on newsom because they had so many running that s objectable that the spotlight turning to the elde of the world. it s a strategic mistake. when the spotlight was focused on elder and he s someone who thinks sexism, women are exaggerating sexism. he thinks that slave owners need reparations. by the way, that s not far outside of the mainstream of trumpism. when the spotlight came on how unacceptable and how unviable he was to the mainstream of voters there. you see it in the reporting. all of a sudden they re not talking about newsom anymore. they have issues with newsom. all of a sudden they can work with newsom. the other guys simply is not
