NEW BERN, N.C. and CHAPEL HILL, N.C., May 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The CarolinaEast Health System (CarolinaEast) Board of Directors and the UNC Health Board of Directors announced approval today of an agreement for CarolinaEast to become part of the UNC Health family through a comprehensive affiliation. Together, the two organizations will manage access to high-quality medical services for the citizens of eastern North Carolina while leveraging the resources of a large health system.

Apr. 29 Five Triangle hospitals rank among the safest in the nation, while another scored just average in a new watchdog report.
The health care providers were graded for measures they take to avoid errors and injury on the latest Hospital Safety Grade list.
The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog, released the scores Thursday after it said it evaluated more than 2,700 general acute-care hospitals across the United States. Eighty-three of them were in North Carolina.

Durham, N.C. Hospital beds across North Carolina are filling up with coronavirus patients. Health care facilities are concerned about having to ration care in the next couple weeks as hospitalizations surge.
The Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, on Fulton Street across from the Duke University Hospital, is expanding its COVID-19 ward to be able relieve the burden from other facilities in the area. Remember, we re taking care of people without COVID, and on top of that, have to deal with COVID-19. So, it really does stretch, especially some of these smaller hospitals, UNC Health infectious disease exprt Dr. David Wohl said.
