Some weeks after the end of an absolutely brutal season, with a blood-rage subsiding enough to form coherent thoughts, it is time. The postmortem of the 2023 Ohio State men’s lacrosse season needs to be posted for the easing of my mind. And so much has happened since April that a recap is in order. The real junkies mentioned that women’s lacrosse was in a rough spot, and that Amy Bokker might be feeling the heat. I paid marginal attention to the women’s season, but those predictions proved correct.
Could not have asked for more of a letdown from this team than that performance. All credit to Virginia. After allowing Ohio State to close the gap to 5-4, the Cavs went on a 12-2 run to end the game and obliterate the Buckeyes. Yes, there are significant injuries. But this is inexcusable. Absolutely. Inexcusable. If this is the kind of effort Ohio State is going to put out in their biggest game of the year, this could be an ugly season. Are Virginia's players much more talented than Ohio State's? Absolutely. Is that any reason to get smoked by 12 goals? Absolutely not.
We're here. Lacrosse is coming. And it's a whole new era in Columbus. That sweet smell you can almost taste is hope. Genuine hope that this year, FINALLY, the Buckeyes can break through and win a playoff game. Some big wins have occurred in the past few years. But it's time to show that this program isn't a fluke. And candyass staff aside, there's a lot to like about this year's group.
It is time. Literal months have passed since I tried to get info out of Ohio State, so instead of scrimmage breakdowns based on video you get a holistic recap of the fall for Ohio State. And it has been a bit of a chaotic mess. Not going to point fingers, because much has happened that can only be analyzed with inside info. As I have told you before, I have none. So we merely observe. First, the positives.
