With broken hearts we announce the loss of our precious mother, Truma Jones. Following complications from an illness, Momma passed away peacefully with family by her side at Renown Hospital in Reno, NV on February 25th, 2021. Momma was born to parents John D. Haggard and Syrena B. Goff as Trumblean Haggard on September 13, 1934 in Hanna, OK. There she grew up and met the love of her life, Glen Jones. She knew in an instant that they would spend their lifetime together. They married and enjoyed their lives with each other for 68 years. Her love for others and life spilled over to all those that knew her. Her greatest passion was cooking and she made us all so proud when she published her own cook book, âSharing Our Bestâ, which included all of those special recipes we enjoyed throughout our lifetime. Every day they scanned the horizons for Japanese warships that were feared to be on their way to invade New Zealand from the south. They never saw one, as the Japanese had no such plan. But regardless of that, the Coastwatchers have long been praised for overcoming hostile environments to perform their duties, which as well as keeping watch included filing weather reports and doing scientific research. As an 18-year-old radio operator, Jones was the youngest of 56 men who did tours of duty at the inhospitable southern bases – two located on the Main Auckland Island and one on even more remote Campbell Island.
Daniel Johnson won top âSpirit Starâ honors in the 2020 Volunteer Spirit Awards program that honored a dozen âunsung hero volunteers in our community,â said Paul Mauney, publisher of The Greeneville Sun, which co-sponsors the annual program with the family of the late John M. Jones and Arne Susong Jones.
Volunteer Spirit Awards are administrated and coordinated by Youth Builders of Greeneville, Inc., with about $5,000 in cash prizes, plaques and certificates provided by the sponsors.
A member of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County for 18 years, Johnson was specially recognized with the Spirit Star for his volunteerism with the organization.
