Former Hemel Hempstead student becomes first ever UK female to fight in traditional martial art Lethwei

Updated Tuesday, 25th May 2021, 11:18 am A former John F Kennedy student became the first ever UK female to fight in Lethwei - also known as Burmese boxing - and wants to share her story to help inspire other women. Nicola Barke, who was born in Hemel Hempstead, wants to use her success in the full-contact combat sport to show women and girls that they can do anything they want in life. The 27-year-old - who is a World Taekwondo Champion, World Lethwei Number 2 and British Kickboxing Champion - wants to share her story of how she became the first UK female to fight Lethwei to help build awareness and inspire the youth, especially females.

The seeing eye Feb 14, 2021 MUSEUM OPEN: The National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum, 40 N. Main St, Niles, will be open for Presidents’ Day 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. The museum is dedicated to honoring the memory of President William McKinley through preservation, exhibition and interpretation of historical artifacts. The museum seeks to educate the community and promote an understanding of McKinley’s life, career, and untimely death, along with the history of the McKinley Birthplace Memorial Building. The museum is also open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday. Admission is free. Donations of artifacts or documents that fit the mission are accepted by the McKinley Birthplace Museum anytime.
