The county announced new evacuations just a couple of hours ago. Deputys have been going door to door telling people to get out. These areas are added to an already large number of evacuations. This is the area where firefighters were hoping to hold the flames. 15 minutes that way and beyond into the smoke there is a battle going on to try to put out the spot fires and another fire that has been working its way up the ridge across highway 20. I was devastated because i know the outlay of the valley, and theres vegetation all the way except for a few spots. And we have a lot of vegetation around our place. The winds are shifting because of the topography. All those take part in a piece of the puzzle of why this fire is capable of growing so quickly. Reporter Middletown High School continues serve as one of one of two Evacuation Centers. 13,000 people have been evacuated. Sometimes we hear people have family members or friends, places to go to. Weather. Super hot, windy and very low humidity but today it has been much better. Mother nature seems to be cooperating. Today the temperatures have been cooler. 20 plus degrees cooler than it was and it has been humid. There has been cloud cover all day long and that is causing the fire to settle down. Highway 20 we saw lots of burned ground but never saw flames. Almost appeared this is just a mopping up phase. That is good. Officials say the fire is far from being detained.
