Im their direct neighbor so that is disheartening to me. As i work as a resident leader we decided to take upon ourselves to start something called take back the block so the neighborhood can be safer. Bringing back the campus is important to my neighborhood and family and very important to the community. As low Income Housing people and we have spanish speakers in my building this was a source and actual step up for them so that could move on with their education. In 2003 i saw a large number of diversity studies courses, African American studies, gay lesbian stud as, Latino American studies and a number of different arts classes that appealed to me. When i started there i was working on my aa degree and 2 dance certificate that the college offered. I had to leave school a little while after that because of some family issues and my fathers health but when i returned last year found a lot of things changed. There was a dance Major Program offered there i can work tworts fwr my aa and focus more on that, but at the same time the performing arts and Education Center wasnt present and found that a lot of money was diverted from that. A number of diversity courses offered in the past were significantly lowered and i found that disheartening. At the same time i was happy to see the faculty and student seemed to be more motivated on getting more people to class. The course repeatability [inaudible] made it difficult to get the numbers up for at Risk C
Advocacy since were all here anyway. Although milton didnt relish the work he had to do in these halls he knew it was necessary for the canopy outside to grow and thrive and lets remember where his legacy really lies and it gives me solace to know that his sons will see him imprint in San Francisco every time they walk down the street. I was think about the past 19 years with my uncle milton in preparation for writing this piece but i was really stumped. How could i encapsulate such a generous relationship i had with my uncle in five minutes . As a last resort i went to facebook and the refuge for all bored teenagers especially late at night. Turns out there was a wealth of communication between my uncle. And my topic and i was going to write about the wonderful similarities between milton and me and the first similarity is obvious. Milton never stopped advocating for what he believed that the kreakdz and maintenance of San Franciscos Forestry Program was civic involvement and support and i think milton would appreciate that if we knock on supervisors doors and do some advocacy since were all here anyway.
