CANTON Foreclosure filings plummeted last year in Stark County, echoing pandemic-fueled trends nationally.
In 2019, a total of 1,016 foreclosure filings were recorded in Stark County Common Pleas Court before plunging to 331 last year, with 273 of those occurring in the first eight months of 2020, according to figures provided by Stark Common Pleas administrator Dwaine Hemphill.
Nationally, foreclosure filings default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions were reported on 214,323 properties across the country, down 57% from 2019 and 93% from a peak of nearly 2.9 million in 2010, the lowest level since tracking began in 2004, according to a report issued by ATTOM Data Solutions, parent company of RealtyTrac, which tracks foreclosure listings.
