The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is under increasing scrutiny due to the closure of the Washington Bridge. A lawyer for four employees said issues include giving non-union people union positions, moving employees’ offices and work locations, and more.
The president, vice president, and chief steward of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Local 400 say the transportation department is plagued by harrassment and bullying. But Director Peter Alviti calls his employees “highly functioning and highly motivated.”
“I think it is a gross and outrageous abuse of the affordable housing law,” a Rhode Island state senator said of the “8-Law” tax breaks for Arnold “Buff” Chace, which are worth about $42 million over 30 years
John Igliozzi, the chief-of-staff to RIDOT director Peter Alviti and an active political candidate for Rhode Island Attorney General, raised a little less than $20,000 in the fourth quarter, according to his campaign finance report released on Wednesday.
