Macomb, Ill- Illinois State Police District 14 Commander, Captain John Dively, has announced the ISP will conduct Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols in Hancock and Henderson Counties during November. Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols allow the ISP to focus on safety belt and child safety seat laws. Under Illinois law, all passengers in a vehicle are required to wear a seatbelt. Seatbelts are still one of the most effective safety devices in vehicles, estimated to save nearly 14,000 lives each year. Half of vehicle occupants killed in accidents were not properly wearing a seatbelt. The goal of this program is to increase occupant restraint compliance through education, child seat inspections, and enforcement.
