John Bermingham, a retired maths teacher based in Alice Springs, has his eyes set on breaking the 5,000-metre track running world record later this year.

He just has turn 70 first.
The goal comes after a recent speedy dash at a recent inter-club race meet in Victoria earlier this month where the 69-year-old finished his race in 18:8.

One Slate Belt township won’t be installing its first public sewer system, at least not with its current plan.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has rejected Upper Mount Bethel Township’s proposed Act 537 Sewer Plan. The Dec. 18 denial letter lists multiple administrative and technical deficiencies with the submitted plan.
Upper Mount Bethel Township Supervisor John Bermingham said a revised plan is unlikely to be considered by the board of supervisors until the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas makes a decision regarding a legal challenge to recent text amendments to the township’s zoning ordinance.

There was one day this year when I laughed all the way through the job I was on and couldn t keep the smile off my face for nearly a week afterwards.
It wasn’t even on my own patch. It was my weekend on duty covering the midlands, west and north west. I was thrown a long-shot - was there any way I could track down a pair of newly-weds in their 80s in Offaly and see if would they do an interview? Sure I’ll give it a try , I said, not knowing this would become the highlight of my working year.
