Lawsuit follows criminal charges against Connellsville school officer who allegedly attacked student

PITTSBURGH - A Fayette County woman sued two Connellsville Area School District school resource officers in federal court after the officers allegedly attacked her minor son. The complaint was filed by plaintiff Linda B. on May 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against defendants resource officers James E. Shaw Sr. and Jesse Lnu.  According to the complaint, the plaintiff s minor son, RB, was walking from the Connellsville Area Career and Technical Center towards the Connellsville Area High School parking lot after class on October 17, 2020.  While heading towards the parking lot, RB was allegedly stopped by the defendants and questioned without any reason. Since he was not breaking any school rules and was not posing a threat to the defendants, RB informed the officers that he was not comfortable with being questioned and proceeded with his walk towards the parking lot, the suit says.

Saltsburg school committee says high school closure and merger was initiated without its input

SALTSBURG GROUP FILES LAWSUIT, SEEKS INJUNCTION TO STOP BLAIRSVILLE-SALTSBURG REDISTRICTING PROCESS

A group that has protested the vote of the Blairsville-Saltsburg school board to close Saltsburg Middle-High School has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court. The suit filed by Save Our Saltsburg Schools and its attorney, Joel Sansone, names the district as the main defendant.  Sansone said the board neglected to consider closing the Blairsville school as an option for reconfiguration and he added that the district needed the two different sets of schools because of the size of the student body and the distance between the two population centers.  He felt that when the board took the vote on April 22

Excessive force lawsuit filed against former Connellsville school police officer

A federal lawsuit filed against a former school police officer in the Connellsville Area School District alleged he assaulted a student and illegally recorded a meeting about the incident. The suit names James E. Shaw Sr., who is already facing criminal charges in the incident, and a second officer, identified in the complaint only as Jesse. The student’s mother filed the suit on his behalf, and neither are identified by name in the suit because the boy is under 18. According to the complaint, on Oct. 16, the 17-year-old student left the Connellsville Area Career and Technical Center at the end of his school day and was walking toward the Connellsville Area High School parking lot when he was approached by both officers and questioned.

Federal judge throws out ADA count and dismisses Scott Township from disability discrimination lawsuit

Stickman | Wikipedia PITTSBURGH – A federal judge has dismissed a count for alleged violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Scott Township from a disability discrimination suit brought by a real estate company, its owner and his sister-in-law, versus the township and one of its commissioners. Cassidy Brothers Real Estate Development Company, Terrance L. Cassidy Sr. and Helen Cassidy of Allegheny County first filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania on May 20, 2020 versus Scott Township and its Commissioner William Wells. Plaintiff Terrance Cassidy is a permanently disabled individual due to injuries he has sustained including, but not limited to, a spinal cord injury who has allegedly suffered ongoing harassment for the past nine years, the suit said.
