people are talking about the fallout over the city budget. more taxes are on the table after fierce lobbying over the bottle tax has likely killed it. mike hellgren has the impact. retailers came out very strongly against this beverage tax online, on facebook, in ads and loudly to city council members. it appears all that pressure worked. the question now is can the city council come up with enough revenue to make up for what the beverage tax would have generated. a majority of city council members now say they will not support the bottle tax. a had cent tax on soda and other bottle beverages that would have generated $10 million to stop the cuts to police and fire departments and other city services. it faced fierce opposition from grocers. this is a regressive tax. it hurts the middle and lower income baltimore city residents who can least afford it. everyone said it isn t right. i can go to baltimore county and get it. i could get it cheaper to avoid the tax. the c
