“What a journey it’s been the past 30 years. What was a leap of faith, has become a force for good and I couldn’t be more proud of our Warriors past and present. The past year has been a huge challenge for Tomorrow’s Warriors, we survived and now we are ready to thrive again, as we return to doing what we do best, live music! I’m really looking forward to playing with Jazz Jamaica All Stars and our tribute to Joe Harriot will be something truly special, also our new Albany series is going to showcase the best of our next generation coming through. Its author, Philip Nanton, will appear at the Bocas LitFest on April 23 at 8 pm. St Lucian writer John Robert Lee, interviewed him.
What inspired you to write this biography of Shake Keane? Is it a first biography of Keane?
The short answer is that Shake’s life contained many elements of a good story: up from humble beginnings in St Vincent, international acclaim in the jazz world, especially in England and Europe of the 1960s; a triumphal return home that went sour because of political machinations, followed quickly by a struggle to survive his last years in New York.

London Unwrapped, a new year-long series delving into the story of Britain’s capital.
One of the first European cities where anyone regardless of origin or rank could present a concert, sell songs, build instruments, write, publish, teach, or start a music business, London became an early magnet for foreign musicians whose entrepreneurial spirit drove, disrupted, shaped and inspired the capital’s musical story. The aim behind London Unwrapped is to celebrate that musical diversity from Handel and Haydn to Joe Harriot, JC Bach to Theon Cross, Mendelssohn to Anna Meredith.
