tonight on all in. i have the right to take stuff, i have the right to look at stuff. the ex president caught on tape bragging about classified documents. tonight, the increasingly strong case against trump and the timeline of the investigation. then, as his lawyers lineup to defend him. if you have the authority to declassify you are not there is new trouble on team trump. plus, how joe manchin s pet pipeline project just got expedited from the debt bill. the president s former chief of staff on that deal in the latest mcgovern from republicans trying to investigate joe biden. let s put it this way that there, there s accusations. it s not for me to make a judgment about one of these accusations if they are accurate or not. all in starts right now. good evening from new york i m chris hayes. the evidence is piling up in the special counsel s investigation into trump s mishandling of classified documents and the subsequent attempt to obstruct every inquiry
of their investigations, in order to paint the biden administration and his family as corrupt and the threat federal government as a political tool. on these allegations, whether or not they are credible. but this allegation in particular, in the showdown with christopher wray only lens comer more credibility. she has substantiated, or verified this over the f t 10:24. this is in an informant who has made unsubstantiated allegations to the fbi that comer and trump grassley have been demanding that christopher wray turnover even though they have already reviewed this document. the idea is that somewhere in the document there is some informant who at some point told the fbi, like, the vice president is taking bribes. now i don t know, maybe the vice president was taking bribes and no one knew about it in the whole thing was covered up, or maybe he didn t know
president? it s, i don t know that. but you ve read it? i read it, let s put it this way, there s accusations in it. [laughter] even over a fox news there quite frustrated that republicans have not been able to show the receipts. it really is disheartening to see all of the oversight that you are trying to do, whether it s irs, whether it s fbi, doj. and just having very little look, frankly. the most telling comment came from the oversight chairman himself. he went on fox news shortly after four a.m. last week and was asked if his investigation has moved the needle in the upcoming presidential election. you look at the polling and right now donald trump is seven points ahead of joe biden and trending upward. joe biden is trending downward. i believe that the media is looking around scratching their head in there realizing that the american people are keeping up with our investigation and
they realize something is wrong here. republicans including the head of their investigations are, what is obvious to everyone, this is just like benghazi before it. it is a blatant political attempt to bring down biden s numbers, even to the obvious frustration of people most invested in it. jacqui all many has been reporting on the investigation. she joins me now. jacqui, i kept thinking i was missing something here. i was seeing reports about it and went back and read it. there is some document, somewhere in the fbi were some person said the president, vice president joe biden six or seven years ago was taking bribes, is that correct? that s exactly right, chris. there are a lot of different rebel holes to go down when it comes to trying to piece through all of house gop republicans different allegations of whistleblowers because lawmakers like james comer have been, to the success
by president biden. not the headline there going for. but republicans of soldiered on trying to find any evidence of anything. and now they are threatening to hold fbi director in contempt of congress for not blindly handing over confidential document that includes unsubstantiated claims from so-called informant about biden and his family. republicans can t even find these documents. they re saying the informant himself, the person who made the accusations, is missing. instead they want the fbi to publicly release whatever unsubstantiated claims are in that document. people have actually read the document, like senator chuck grassley and they readily admit that republicans really just don t care if these wild claims are true or not. we aren t interested in whether or not the accusations against vice president biden or accurate or not. senator, how damning is this document to the sitting u.s.
