party was with ross perot in 1992. for conservatives constantly whining about the evil liberal elite in hollywood pushing their cultural filth upon the innocent folk, they could always rely on two people who had their back. b list actor who would become president and defeat the soviet empire and dirty harry. ronald reagan, if you were still alive, would be 101 years old today. the reason that ronald reagan is so beloved by conservatives has less to do with the particulars of his policy achievemens such as they were, than two things like a, his political success, and b, his unabashed torch carrying for the idea of american exceptionalism. in the conservative mind, under jimmy carter america was on the decline. we were weak, we had been emasculated. in rolled ronald reagan to reassert american supremacy in
[ applause ] i think the only job he cares about is the one he s got. of course, the president came into office in the middle of a recession when the country s bleeding jobs, hemorrhaging jobs. take a look at this chart from the bureau of labor statistics tracking month to month job growth. since january of 2008 until last month. the job list slowed down. look at that chart, obama s been gaining jobs ever since halfway through 2009. the hemorrhaging of jobs was of course a carry as we walked into office. michael steele is it fair to say this president s caused our economic problems when he walked in during a hemorrhaging and took him six months to close the hemorrhage and create jobs and he s blamed for what bush did? absolutely. it s politics. it s on his watch. it s bs? you call it bs.
getting word that rebels are leading a successful uprising in the suburbs of tripoli after getting light weapons by defecting security service officers. this has been the talk for a while, that a lot of libyan military personnel are abandoning ship, so to speak, and that is helping the rebels out. it s the first indication that they re moving in on tripoli as a result. we ll keep you posted. meanwhile back in this country, some republicans with deep pockets planning a road trip to new jersey. they re hoping that money can get governor chris christie to change his mind and go ahead and run for president. what about republican hopefuls in the race already, mike mitt romney and tim pawlenty? my next guest says the push for christie could send these guys to the b-list. what do you mean? when you have someone like chris christie being openly encouraged to run for president because he s not in the race it obviously suggests that the
people who are in the race are somehow inadequate. the b-list is better than the d-list. it could be worth for them. christie said, no, he s not running. i assume he s not. neil: he s going to meet with them. he s going to meet with them. he meets with all the candidates, too. you know, they re all coming to see him. he s enjoying the attention. but he also knows that you re never more popular than the day before you announce. never. neil: that s true. i m wondering, was this the same sort of deal with bill clinton in 92, all those who opted out of the race they are, because george bush sr. was considered indestructible. were there similar gatherings of nervous democrats, elite, who said, al gore, please run. mario cuomo, please run. what? absolutely. not just those two, but don t forget dick gephardt, mario
