A Spanish-based renewable energy company has begun construction on a $258 million solar farm in Fort Bend County.
Construction began Friday on the farm in far west Fort Bend County, near Rosenberg, according to a news release from Spanish conglomerate Acciona.
The company will employ as many as 450 people in Fort Bend County during construction and the farm will create 12 full-time jobs to handle operations, according to the company.
Once complete, the solar farm will have a generating capacity of 317 megawatts, and will double Accionaâs renewable energy capacity in the United States, according to the news release.
âWe expect Fort Bend to be the first of many, as Acciona expects to double its installed capacity in the U.S. by 2023,â said Joaquin Castillo, CEO of the companyâs energy division in the country.
