CLEVELAND, Ohio – State regulators ripped the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services after the 2018 death of 4-year-old Aniya Day-Garrett, saying social workers didn’t follow protocols and that changes needed to be made.
In response, the county announced sweeping reforms to address safety concerns, as it had several other times over the last two decades. But those changes haven’t stopped deaths that continue to haunt the department.
With the April 24 death of 6-year-old Kaamir Bringht, Cuyahoga County’s child-welfare agency is again under scrutiny.

The Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio will vaccinate 23,000 Cuyahoga County school staff against the coronavirus during the next two weeks. Giant Eagle, the pharmacy partner, will vaccinate 1,920 school staff a day, which averages to 20 vaccines every five minutes. It appears to be a solid plan to get districts closer to a return to normal. Meanwhile, Ohioans will find out this year if a system approved in 2018 to end gerrymandering actually works. And lawyers for former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora again are trying to get his bribery-related convictions overturned.
