Cnbc im becky quick with joe kernen and Andrew Ross Sorkin the market has come under significant pressure this morning. And the nasdaq off by 143. Its all coming this morning a rough week for wall street 5. 5 that was the worst week since march 20th and all three are coming off of their biggest weekly losses and last month after last week. The dow and nasdaq for the month of june would be down with the projected losses that were looking at this morning. S p is already down for the month of june. Also keeping track of the treasury market this morning lets take a look at that. Treasury yields yielding 0. 08 crude oil prices under pressure this morning too this is a sign of how much is anticipated in terms of a come back not only here in the United States but around the globe and right now wti down about 55 cents. Still trading 35 though at 35. 71 andrew. Thank you, becky. I hope everybody had a great weekend despite some of these losses that were looking at in the market i want to start
Everything is in green across the screen right now joe, were talking this is basically the growth value trade conversation but it takes on a little bit of a different face because were talking about this recovery trade i want to go through some stocks with you i want you to decide whether these things have come too far, too fast whether its the airlines, american, delta, united delta, southwest. You know what the gains are over the last two weeks alone thats just a representation of what were talking about here. Clearly skots, what we have witnessed is we had what i would call the v recovery stocks. Those stocks are the Growth Stocks those are the quality momentum stocks and you have more recently the stocks that are the u stocks the l stocks the dash for trash stocks. Im going to stay positioned with my growth name, my nasdaq names. Theres clear exuberance and when we look back upon this, well realize it was a rational kp exuberan exuberance im not going to bite. Im going to stay with
Tenyear 91 basis points one more way in which the economy in this case has confounded some and the markets had it right yeah. There wasnt a day that we came in and we heard from very big people, rich people, Hedge Fund Managers saying this is ridiculous its fanciful, that the rally itself was uninformed. I admit, look, there were parts of me that said are you kidding me, every morning the airlines will be up big when very few people are flying . It turns out that the hiring took place in the areas that we felt were most devastated. Retail, travel, leisure. And its remarkable because when youre looking for 20 and you have all your scripts all set to talk about the beginning of the next great depression, and then you get the actual numbers, it kind of knocks your socks off. You struggle to think why did we hear so much woe is me the other side says we heard it because 13 is still unfathomable, but its certainly more fathomable than 20 so, i dont know its good. It is good. The president r
On the walls check out my twitter feed. See all the ridiculous speculative names people hope ill mention or pump same deal, no earnings, but right on stocks. These are textbook signs of what we call froth. Thats what this is. Its froth and you know what . All the froth got crushed today. Dow plunging 517 points, s p plummeting 117 , nasdaq nose diving 1. 55 not bad for an amateur so whats become too riskier let me give you an example last night kind of cool. We had novavax on, hottest stock on the market. Vaccine developer working on something for covid19 the stock runs from 18 to 40 in two days i cant recommend Something Like that thats this, you know, novavax is this, okay. Good guys, but it doesnt matter it actually managed to rally today. Maybe novavax wins the vaccine rate if they dont, the stock is going to get eviscerated id rather have you in something thats diversified glaxo, pfizer, j j same for biotech stocks. Anything related to ebola, flu, except regeneron they have little
The country without Serious Health consequence where does the confidence come from i mean, havent lets see, we adopted universal testing yet . I dont think so we dont have contact tracing. We dont have enough gloves and mask to keep everybody protected. Lucky me yet the markets have an incredibly strong month. Even with todays mild dip, dow slipping 32 points, s p edging 5. 2 , nasdaq climbed 1. 4 , they crushed fang put it out there are we whistling past the graveyard here not so fast. Theres a ton of confidence in the safety net, the one that covers Large Companies even it as it fails to protect a lot of Small Businesses and doesnt do nearly enough for individuals. Remember we dont trade hair salons here. Theres no ticker for diner, no barber shop, gyms, no. We trade Big Companies companies that have more access to funding than i have ever seen in my life courtesy of the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department who know that the stakes are high. But you also got a lot of hope driv
