With the turning of the calendar to a new year, the Saline County Board of Commissioners reorganized its leadership during its meeting Tuesday.
Commissioner Rodger Sparks was selected as the board s new chairman, with Commissioner Jim Weese chosen as vice chairman.
Commissioner Mike White made the motions to nominate both Sparks and Weese to their roles with 5-0 votes for both positions. White originally nominated outgoing chairman Bob Vidricksen as the secretary, but Vidricksen declined the nomination and in turn nominated White to the position. I ve been an officer for three years, Vidricksen said.
Vidricksen noted it was time for a change in leadership for the commission. White was selected as the secretary by a 4-1 vote, with himself as the lone nay vote, to the laughter of his fellow commissioners.
The new Saline County jail that was approved by voters in this year s general election is one step closer Tuesday after the Saline County Commission approved the purchase of land in north Salina for the facility.
During its meeting Tuesday morning, the Saline County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of almost 18 acres of land near the southeast corner of N. Front Street and E. Pacific Avenue, all within the city limits of Salina.
The commission was pleased to see this part of the process moving forward. This is an exciting time for me as a commissioner, for Saline County, this is a big deal, said Board Chairman Bob Vidricksen.
