Yet there are sober reminders tonight that something as carefree as a gathering on the deck can invite serious danger. Millions of decks across the country are aging, making them vulnerable to collapse. In North Carolina on saturday night, two dozen family members ages 5 to 94 were injured when the deck they were standing on plunged to the ground.
