Author of the article: Letter to the editor Publishing date: May 13, 2021  •  3 hours ago  •  3 minute read  •  Article content The Washington Post on May 11 announced the proposed offshore wind farm off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard received the green light. It’s the first of 14 wind farms proposed by President Joe Biden to be approved. As with all wind farms and solar farms, the question to be asked is what will generate the electricity for those homes when the wind does not blow and the sun does not shine? If the answer is that the backup source for generating electricity is natural gas, coal or oil, then it’s very unlikely such projects will cause a net reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
