BIRMINGHAM Talk about one of the crazier rivalry games you’ll see in high school football Birmingham Seaholm and Birmingham Groves put on a gridiron classic in the first round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 State Tournament.
The Birmingham Seaholm Maples’ interior line put the team on their backs, dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and propelled the Maples to a 21-14 win over rival their crosstown rivals, the Birmingham Groves Falcons on Friday night.
Birmingham Seaholm scored early and often, building a commanding 35-0 lead and cruising to a 42-22 win over the Knights, wrapping up an undefeated Oakland Activities Blue season and the school’s first outright league championship since 2018.
For the second straight season, the Birmingham Seaholm Maples took it to the Troy Colts, this time defeating its Oakland Activities Association Blue foe, 42-6, Friday night, with four different players finding the end zone. All four were seniors, each with three or four years experience playing for coach Jim DeWald.
